It’s the most exciting beach of Pernambuco and one of the most beautiful and paradisiacal views of the Brazilian Northeast. Porto is a wonderful beach, with blue and warm water, almost without waves and with natural pools in the village area.
The reef formations draw wells in green and blue tones, where shoals of colorful fishes used to swim. The Paixão Well is an obligatory point. There, each little piece of bread thrown into the sea will bring this show close to you. It’s a place where the bravest divers enjoy passing through tunnels made of coral barriers. It didn’t take long for the world to find out about all of this and soon turn aside from Caribbean to the Brazilian Northeast Coast.
Now, if you want to enjoy a nice cuisine, Porto de Galinhas has it too. There are bars, restaurants, coffee shops, in short a large variety of options for the most different tastes, from typical Pernambucana cuisine to international dishes.
And if you want to have fun at night, the beach burns. The streets get crowded of people looking for fun, which sometimes last till morning. Besides the dance clubs, there’s also an arena for shows there. The folk art is also a strong point of Porto.
Filme sobre Porto de Galinhas:

Do you know where the name of this beach came from?

A long time ago, Porto de Galinhas (Hens Port, in English) was called Porto Rico (Rich Port), because of the extraction of Pau Brasil, a specie of tree. When the slaves got here to be sold and smuggled, they came under crates of D’angola hens. The arrival of slaves in the seaside was announced by the password "There’s new hen in the Port!". That’s why Porto Rico (Rich Port) was known as Porto das Galinhas (Port of Hens). Then the name Porto de Galinhas.
